Great insight and a treat on many levels

This book came to my attention quite accidentally. I am familiar with the music of Erin Perry, and in a bio that I read about her one night I discovered her father was, in fact, the retired former television personality Jim Perry ("Card Sharks", etc.). Through Erin I learned of this book. It sounded interesting so I gave it a whirl, and wound up reading it in one night.

Jim shares many anecdotes, life examples and insights on how one can take positive control of one's life. It's impossible not to read this and think of past and present situations in your own life that apply. I found myself improved after reading this.

From the "fan of Jim Perry" standpoint, it was a treat to read some personal stories from Jim since retiring from the public eye. I found myself as fascinated with the journey Jim took me on in his personal life as I was with the philosophies that, ultimately, are what the book is all about. And I rooted for the happy ending.

This is NOT an entertainment-themed autobiography. Jim is not telling us about his career. These are insights, philosophies and ideologies from the mind of a man who just happened to have that entertainment career. It is a great read and highly recommended.

Accessible Positive Spiritual information

Like his first book (The Sleeper Awakes), Mr Perry's "There's Gotta Be a Pony" is very accessible and full of great inspirational information. I am more 'spiritual' than 'religious' and find the 'balance' he's chosen to be quite appealing.

Jim Perry always brings the best!

Jim Perry does it again. He amazed us in The Sleeper Awakes and this book is no different. Truly if you missed out on Jim Perry's career and him, you missed out on a truly phenomenal guy. He is all REAL. No phony business. This man gave us everything he got on screen. He was as real as you could find. He is my favorite guy ever on TV for that very reason. I could feel his big heart on screen. He not only has a big heart but also brings out some great philosophical thinking and really makes you dig deep within. Jim Perry always dug deep within to display his immense talents. As a fan, you couldn't ask for more. But I feel each time I read this book, I find more meaning than I did before. This is Jim Perry, ladies and gentlemen, never ceases to amaze you and always find new ways to love him. While he has departed this world, we can take with us forever his great truths, his great thinking, and apply them to our lives. We also can always cherish the amazing memories he gave us on screen. I for one am proud I got to "know" Jim Perry and my life has been so much more enjoyable and amazing because of this. Love him forever.

About the Author
Thomas Hardy (1840–1928), enduring author of the twentieth century, wrote the classics Jude the Obscure, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Far from the Madding Crowd, The Return of the Native, The Mayor of Casterbridge, and many other works.

Ralph Pite is the Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies and Professor of English at the University of Bristol, where he has taught since 2007. He is the author of Thomas Hardy: The Guarded Life, Hardy's Geography: Wessex and the Regional Novel, and The Circle of Our Vision: Dante's Presence in English Romantic Poetry. The Way He Made Me Feel... Again?

Just wanted everyone to know that this is a reprint of Tatiana's book, "The Way He Made Me Feel"... with a new title & perhaps permission to use Michael's picture on the cover. Frankly, I think the old title described the situation better. It's clear to me, from reading this book, that M.J. was just not that into this woman. He may have been interested at first, but quickly changed his mind after she became too aggressive.

I just don't know. It seems like many people are trying to cash in on their "relationship" &/or encounters with Michael. It's kind of sad. Perhaps it's time for those folks to get a real job & make money from their own talents... if they have them. Oh well..., back to the book.

Don't get me wrong. I actually DO like this book. If you can read past Tatiana's delusions, I think she paints a pretty honest representation of a portion of Michael's personality and how he handles certain business. What I don't like about this book is the fat new price... almost $80.00! WHAT!?! I'm sure I paid about five bucks for my 1st edition copy. A more than fair price.

If you can find it cheap, it's an interesting read for any Michael Jackson fan.

my heart goes out to this woman....

Now, I'm not going to call her pathetic or delusional like other reviewers have said. I could totally understand and relate to her feelings. I could see why she was infatuated with Michael. He wasn't like other guys. He was modest, sensitive, sweet, gentle, charming, and humble. His voice was so soothing and soft that it could make anyone feel more relaxed. Michael would have been better off with her. Maybe he would still be here today. The women he've been with were overrated and unreal. Lisa Marie was obviously not the right person for Mike. She didn't stick with him when he was in need the most. She gave up on him and their marriage. I'm not sure if it's true, but I read somewhere that he wrote in his diary that he regretted that he didn't pursue her after the tour. He just didn't know what he was missing. Also, I don't like the fact that his manager DiLeo interferred with Michael's business. I guess he was only acting out as Michael's protector because they were so many people going after Michael's money that I guess he thought Tatiana was one of them. At least she gets to share that special kiss with him. I hope she's doing okay and that she will be able to heal from a broken heart.

YOU MUST HAVE

I just finished reading, "Michael & Tatiana: The King of My Heart" and it was so compelling!! It's a real Masterpiece. The way in which it was put together and how it flowed, was truly entertaining. I cried, I laughed, and went on such an emotional roller coaster. I am really glad that I read her story and happier that she unselfishly shared her experience with us all.
It was really interesting to hear a real inside view of showbiz and how people really are behind the scenes.
Never knew that (Robert)De Niro, could actually be so cheeky and so much fun, as his persona comes off a bit dull at times.
I love the stint she did with Michael Jackson video, The Kiss.
There was so much more to this woman than I had ever imagined.
I simply could not put this book down!! I finished it that same day. I advise anyone to pick up a copy and read it.
She teaches us all, that no matter what you've endured in this life, that true love never dies and that God love does exist. Bravo, Tatiana Take Your Bow....

About the Author

Dr. James T. Bradford is author of Preaching and Second Chronicles Seven:Fourteen. He holds a PhD in aerospace engineering from the University of Minnesota. While in college, he led a Bible study that eventually grew into a university church. Upon graduation in 1979, Jim entered full-time ministry with that campus outreach. Since then, he has served growing faith-based communities in British Columbia, California, and Missouri. Currently he travels the world speaking on leadership and church growth in his role as general secretary of the Assemblies of God, which was recently recognized as the fourth-largest Christian movement in the world. He and his wife, Sandi, have two daughters and reside in Springfield, Missouri.

About the Foreword Author

Byron Klaus has served as president of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary since 1999. Prior to his appointment as AGTS president, he served at Vanguard University, and at local churches in California, Texas, and Illinois. His commitment to leadership development in growing churches around the world has taken him to preach and to develop leaders in over 50 nations. Cultivating Spiritual, Relational, Physical, and Emotional Health in Christian Leadership

In the course of my ministry, Jim Bradford has been my boss, mentor, colleague, and friend. So, you will understand what I mean when I say I cannot be “objective” about his most recent book. I am not objective about him. He’s the real deal—a God-centered, Jesus-focused, Spirit-filled leader.

Unsurprisingly, then, I think Lead So Others Can Follow is a great primer on Christian leadership. While my endorsement of the book is colored by my respect for the author, that respect itself grows out of 25 years of observing Bradford’s leadership personally. Montaigne said, “No man is a hero to his own valet,” indicating that some leaders are impressive at a distance but not up close. Bradford is one of a handful of people I know who is impressive at both.

Bradford is an aerospace engineer by training. (One of his congregations printed a T-shirt with the motto, “My pastor is a rocket scientist.”) His analytical skills are evident through the book. He divides the books twelve chapters into four sections titled, respectively, “Spirituality and Servanthood,” “Systems and Strategies,” “Skills and Strengths,” and “Stamina and Stability.” (As the alliteration shows, Bradford is also a memorable preacher.)

There are hosts of books about what might be called the “externals” of leadership, what leaders do. Bradford examines these in the second and third sections of the book. Too little attention is paid to the “internals” of leadership, however—who leaders are. The internals are the focus of the first and final sections. As I look at these sections, I see an emphasis on the health of the leader, his (or her) spiritual, relational, physical, and emotional wellbeing.

Christian leaders—like all leaders—have power, which Bradford defines as “the influence we have and how we use it.” He distinguishes three kinds of power:

• Positional Power—We have this power by virtue of the title on our office doors and the authority that our roles or positions give us.
• Possessional Power—We have this power because of something we have that others do not.
• Personal Power—This power flows out of the trust and respect others have for us. It is influence that is rooted in who we are, based on inner character and proven integrity rather than external position or personal possessions.

Christian leaders might influence their congregations in the short term through the exercise of positional or possessional power. Over time, however, appeals to these kinds of authority fall increasingly on deaf ears. They “push” people into following the leader. Only personal power—a leader’s spiritual authenticity, integrity, and strength of character—“pull” people into a leader’s sphere of influence. The battle for healthy leadership and healthy churches is won or lost by the leader’s cultivation of spiritual, relational, physical, and emotional health.

Bradford has great advice for the “externals” of leadership—oversight roles, strategic processes, staffing criteria, team building, public speaking, change management, etc. In my opinion, though, Bradford’s greatest contribution to the topic of Christian leadership lies in his opening and closing sections on leadership’s “internals.”

I close this review with the closing anecdote of Bradford’s book:

"At the 2010 Lausanne III conference in South Africa, a Pentecostal pastor from Kenya told the story of the East African revival of over fifty years ago. During that time, people would walk well-worn pathways to prayer huts and places of intercession in the forest. When Christians slipped away from prayer, their friends would notice by the condition of their paths, and gently encourage each other: 'Brother, the grass grows on your path.'

"As leaders of God’s people, engaged in spiritual battle and committed to prevailing, our challenge is to never let the grass grow on our pathway to prayer."

Amen to that! And read this book.

Best Used as a Teaching Manual Rather Than a Reference Book

The price of Sonar Home Studio 7XL has dropped so dramatically that it has become the PC equivalent of Apple's Garageband. The Sonar program is far more feature rich but is not as intuitive as Garageband. This book solves the problem for Sonar.

If you follow the instructions in the book you will learn how to create loop based music, how to record real instruments, how to use virtual instruments, how to use synthesizers, how to add effects, and finally how to mix and master a recording. The written instructions are very easy to follow and the there are many illustrations to supplement the teaching materials.

Where Sonar parts company with Garageband is in the use of synthesizers. Sonar's parent company is Cakewalk and Cakewalk is known for its phenomenal synthesizers. To operate these synthesizers you need to understand midi (musical instrument digital interface) and this book covers the topic in a very non-threatening way.

It took me 3 months to finish the book from cover to cover and I am able to create the exact sound I want. My failings as an instrumentalist and vocalist can be edited.

Sonar Home Studio is a relatively old program that works on notepad computers with little memory or hard drive storage. Sonar has moved on with far more sophisticated software which works best on System 7 and 64 bit operating platform. Having finished the instructions in this book you will have the pleasant choice of sticking with a very adequate recording program or taking on the challenge of working with the latest Sonar software which incorporates much of what is in version 7 but which competes in another league with other high-end recording software.

A Massive Undertaking, Done Well

Hi: First of all, I have been around audio recording since way before computer audio recording ever existed. This book is a composite of a number of different generations of this program, which had to be a massive challenge for the author to assimilate evenhandedly. These programs (including the video ones) are like the seven cities of Troy, with each generation being built on the foundations of the previous one. Imho, these programs become vastly complicated, to anyone who is not deeply knowledgable about the nuances of these programs. In fact, I find it so complicated, as I am basically teaching myself, and even though I feel I am fairly computer comfortable, I just really and truly miss analog recording, just so I don't have to go through all of the frustration with the intricacies of working digitally. Then again, I am not a teenage computer Wiz Kid. I do however, own Sony Acid Studio 9, and it seems to be a little more user friendly, and it appears to have more capabilites, but then again, I use Sonar on my XP computer, and Acid on my Windows 7 Home Premium computer. All in all, I tip my hat to this author, who must be one heck of a digital music technician...

Psychotherapy is all things to all people in this mega-selling pop-psychology watershed, which features a new introduction by the author in this 25th anniversary edition. His agenda in this tome, which was first published in 1978 but didn't become a bestseller until 1983, is to reconcile the psychoanalytic tradition with the conflicting cultural currents roiling the 70s. In the spirit of Me-Decade individualism and libertinism, he celebrates self-actualization as life's highest purpose and flirts with the notions of open marriage and therapeutic sex between patient and analyst. But because he is attuned to the nascent conservative backlash against the therapeutic worldview, Peck also cites Gospel passages, recruits psychotherapy to the cause of traditional religion (he even convinces a patient to sign up for divinity school) and insists that problems must be overcome through suffering, discipline and hard work (with a therapist.) Often departing from the cerebral and rationalistic bent of Freudian discourse for a mystical, Jungian tone more compatible with New Age spirituality, Peck writes of psychotherapy as an exercise in "love" and "spiritual growth," asserts that "our unconscious is God" and affirms his belief in miracles, reincarnation and telepathy. This 25th-anniversary edition includes a new introduction in which the publisher claims the author "explains the ideas that shaped this book and continue to influence an expanding audience of readers." That might sound like PR, but this truly was one of the first books dealing with the psychology of spirituality and paved the way for numerous others that followed in its wake.
