This return to The Lone Star Canyon miniseries by Susan Mallery continues with UNEXPECTEDLY EXPECTING!
Feisty hairdresser Nora Darby has always wanted children, it's a husband she can do without. She knows seeing Doctor Stephen Remington is dangerous, threatening her heart, but she refuses to listen to her little voice of caution when she's in his arms. Other women can have adult affairs without disrupting their lives, so surely she can too. Except that the first night of incredible sex turns her life upside down. And she's been lonely a long time.
Stephen offers a special relationship without the emotional attachments of marriage. He wants monogamy, and when the inevitable end comes, he wants it to be friendly. Then an incredible night of passion leads to unexpected emotional intimacy...broken when he realizes that the condom also broke. He wants this child, and will marry Nora to share his child's life. Somehow he can't stop admiring the intriguing woman with the loud mouth and hidden, soft heart.
Susan Mallery has a talent for creating memorable characters with surprising depth and determination. Nora and Stephen provide heart-warming entertainment as they skirt the issues of love and commitment. While this is not a plot driven novel, the depth of characterization, especially Nora's firce independence and strength of character, make her special and memorable. UNEXPECTEDLY EXPECTING! is highly recommended!

A cute quick read

Unexpectedly Expecting is by Susan Mallery. It is a quick and easy read about taking chances. It is really good, although it may not be quite as good as some of her other books. That could definitely be because it is much shorter than some of the others. However, it does grab your attention from the first chapter until the last.
Stephen Remington has come to Lone Star Canyon, Texas to be the general doctor he has always wanted to be. He left a lucrative ER post in Boston to finally live out his dream as a country doctor. The six months he has been here have already proven he was right to come. Today, his skills may be needed as a tornado races through the town. Thankfully, there is relatively little damage and few severe injuries. In his race to get people into the shared shelter, he meets Nora Darby, owner of the Snip ‘n Clip hair salon he can see from his office window. For the first time in a very long time, he is immediately attracted to a woman and wants to get to know Nora. He is not looking for love or a long term relationship.
Nora Darby does not want anything to do with men. She was deserted by her Father when she was young and again by her fiancé. She does not want to be let down again. She also does not want to be the object of town gossip which is highly probable in the small town. Even as she resists Stephen’s overtures of friendship, she is attracted to him. When he suggests their having an affair with no strings and no falling in love or wanting any future relationship, she agrees. Has she made a mistake?

I was hoping for more.

Not much of a story line here. Too much sex and not enough story. I'm usually a big fan of hers, but this was a let down. But it did lead to reading a connected story, which was good.
