Enlightenment for Over-Programmed Christians

This is a wonderful old book filled with profound observations about Western man's relationship with God. Written by a post-Victorian intellectual mystic, who happened to be a production designer by trade, this book recounts the author's salvation from near-suicidal depression via a personal mystical experience. The insights gained through that experience inspired this book, which attacks the stagnant relationship modern Christians share with God. He exhorts the reader to open up to a richer and more meaningful interpretation of Christ's teachings, relying more on his recorded words and less on the intercession of stilted preachers who have lost all connection with his original teachings in favor of their myopic cultural programming. At their best, King's words attain the power of elegant, inspirational poetry. At their worst, they retain a few scant traces of Western cultural chauvinism, although it seems likely this pose was adopted to appeal to his intended target. If you're looking for accessibly written clues to life, this is worth a look. Stay with it to the end, it gets deeper and more impressive as it goes on. And don't be put off if you're agnostic -- King is as much an evolutionist as he is a true believer.

This sixth edition of Strategic Marketing for Nonprofit Organizations comes at a time when nonprofit marketing is poised to have a much greater impact on the field of nonprofit management and on the growing intersection between that sector and the business world. The first two editions of this book served to legitimize marketing as a distinct career and a distinct educational discipline, while the third edition focused less on whether one should carry out nonprofit marketing and more on how one should do it well. The fourth edition shifted its emphasis to focus more closely on strategic planning. As the fourth edition noted, "The major need of the nonprofit sector now is not so much for techniques to implement marketing, but for assistance in strategic planning. Many nonprofits face significant declines in traditional sources of revenue, dramatic changes in their customer mix, and bold new competition. They need help rethinking where they are going and what broad strategies they should be using to get there:"

The fifth edition strongly reflected the growing sophistication of the field and its cadre of skilled practitioners by incorporating their insights into the text and examples. It also emphasized the growing importance of social marketing, the application of marketing concepts not just to organizations but to programs designed to bring about social change. It tiptoed into the international arena where the nonprofit sector was beginning to have a significant impact and sought to reflect the blurring of the previously distinct lines between nonprofit and commercial marketing.

This sixth edition marks a major change in the way in which nonprofit marketing is conceived and applied. First of all, much more strongly than in previous editions, it seeks to position marketing as among the most critical—if not the most critical—disciplines needed for nonprofit success. It argues that success ultimately requires the influencing of the behavior in a wide range of key target markets—clients, funders, policy makers, volunteers, and the media, as well as the nonprofit's own staff. This is the province of marketing because marketing is the "behavioral influence business." The book positions marketing as central to top management's achievement of the organization's mission. Implicit in this volume is the notion that everyone in nonprofit management—including the CEO—ought to have a thorough grounding in marketing and what it does and can do.

Second, this edition reflects the breaking down of three kinds of boundaries that heretofore limited the field. First, it removes the conception of nonprofit marketing as primarily a North American phenomenon. As we will show in several places in the book, nonprofit enterprise is flourishing everywhere in the world, including Asian countries with a tradition of family self-help and formerly communist countries with a tradition of state social service. We recognize that we have much to learn—as well as contribute—as we broaden our compass to include these new environments.

The sixth edition also removes the assumption that the target audience for a text on nonprofit marketing is only present and future practitioners in nonprofit organizations. It is a growing reality that both the government and for-profit sectors have a growing interest in "social enterprise." Many government agencies have missions highly similar to nonprofits and are often major players in the field of social marketing. At the same time, corporations are increasingly becoming involved in the social sector through venture philanthropy, cause marketing, and corporate volunteerism programs. Managers—and future managers—in both the government and corporate domains need to appreciate the concepts and tools described here and understand the nonprofit environment and what it is like to try to bring about change within it.

Finally, consistent with its behavioral focus, this edition organizes much of the discussion of strategic and tactical options around two central behavioral science models, what we call "the Stages of Change" and "the BCOS drivers." These models guide our thinking about how to influence behavior in many different contexts. They provide a powerful portable framework for nonprofit practitioners to use to be successful in this challenging environment

This book was required by my college professor, and I enjoyed reading it. It is very easy to read and very enjoyable as well. Excellent examples, and well laid out material. The course was very good as well. If you want a good introductory book about marketing services for a Nonprofit Organization then consider this one.

I am taking an MLIS Graduate program and took a Library Marketing course that used this book. So far it has been the most valuable class for me, and I learned a great deal, from marketing products and services, to creating marketing plans, to writing grants. All of it was based on this book, and it was simply invaluable. Libraries will need creative funding in the future and this is a great start!

The application of BOTOX in the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms remains an important clinical question. Looks like that finally we have an excellent resource in the form of this book for urologists looking to get in depth analysis of BOTOX and its current application in urology.

Dr Chancellor is one of the pioneers of intravesical BOTOX therapy and this reflects on the exhaustive reviews and easy to understand scientific explanations in this book. There is sufficient information to understand the concepts while still being a satisfying read.

Bottom line is that this book is a MUST READ!

Block Party 5K1 Book Two by Al-Saadiq Banks picks up right where book one left off and again there is a major adrenaline rush filled within these pages. I thoroughly enjoyed both books, but book two definitely brought everything full circle and the a lot of questions were answered and there many OMG moments that had me anxiously awaiting to see what was going to happen next. What I enjoyed about this series was that this story was set in modern day theme and it made the story line that more enjoyable for me. I read all of the stories in this series and what makes Al-Saadiq different as a writer is because he is emotionally connected with these characters and they are extremely well developed to the point that the dialogue and verbiage are on point, everything is true to life. Bottom line is that this book is a MUST READ!

All hail the king (again)

Just when you think Mr. Banks has done it all, he delivers again. 5k1 is the quintessential street book that vividly captures the tone of the streets today. The Mayor - one of the BEST characters in ANY series- is nearly outdone by the Black Charles Manson. In book two, he lives up to his name! You see why he's so feared. The international twist is a pleasant surprise too, as it deals with a very real social issue. All in all, Mr. BANKS shows why he is the king of this lit s***!

What you didnt get, you won't.

I can't say so much about 5K1, however I will only say you have to read it.

Everyone is trying to eat, however The Black Charles Manson is not TRYING TO SHARE!
If you didn't get it before he got out, you wont get it now.

I can honestly say reading Al-Saadiq novels since NO Exit he didn't leave one stone uncovered in this installment of Block Party.

Absolute great read from start to finish, you wont be disappointed at all.

Worthwile again!

The new updated version now shows the full influence of the resurgence of the great American cocktail. The author hits all the right marks in how to prepare a cocktail properly, such as insisting one only use fresh-squeezed lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit juices.
There are a few peculiarities that are shocking - the author states Old Tom gin is no longer available, which is just bizarre; it is available all over the country and is indeed still produced. Hayman's Old Tom Gin is one. There is also a Manhatta recipe that appears to be a mis-print. Surely the author doesn't intend for a Manhattan of 1 1/2 oz whiskey, 1/2 vermouth, and agostura bitters. It most likely is meant to read 2 1/2oz rye or bourbon, 1oz sweet vermouth, 2 dashes Angostura bitters... Unless he just likes a 2 oz manhattan.
The organization by alcohol is a little strange too. Where does one put a drink that contains equal parts gin, vermouth and campari? Organization alphabetically or by drink classification would work better.
The recipes are good & one can use them knowing he or she will enjoy the outcome.
It may not be the standard it was in the heyday of the cocktail, but it's making it's way back. I look forward to better organized, more accurate versions in the future! Better proofreading & more attention to detail will make it the standard it used to be.

The only one you'll ever need

Here's the standard, the only bartending/cocktail recipe book that you'll ever need. Sure, there are others out there with snazzy illustrations and photos of cocktails that you'll never make but what you have here is the standard, the classic. In here is all the information and recipes to make timelss cocktails. These really are great. When I bartended this was the go-to guide for cocktails, now years later I'm glad to have this in my kitchen for those times when someone may want something just a little different. So yes, go ahead and buy the glitzy cocktail book, but you really ought to have this one too, you'll use it much more and find it indeed more helpful.

As he did in Rocket Ranch, Ward mixes detailed technical information about launch preparations with anecdotes and other insights from the people who worked there. About the Author

American author Jonathan Ward spent several years of his childhood in Japan, but he considers the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D. C., to be his hometown. Although he has a wide variety of interests and has worked in many fields, space exploration is his lifelong passion. His joy of bringing the space program to life for the general public began in high school, when he served as a volunteer tour guide at the National Air and Space Museum during the Apollo 15 and 16 missions. He continues his public outreach today, as a Solar System Ambassador for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as a frequent speaker on space exploration topics to interest groups and at regional conferences, and as an author for Springer-Praxis. Jonathan is also a frequent contributor to online space exploration forums.

Jonathan brings a unique perspective to his writing that marries a systems view of the topic, fascination with the technology, passion for space exploration, and deep respect for the people who make it all happen. He holds an MS in Systems Management from the University of Denver and a BS in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is professionally certified as an executive coach by the International Coach Federation, and serves on the adjunct faculty at the Center for Creative Leadership. His professional experience includes extensive work with leadership teams and several years with Boeing on the Space Station Freedom program.

Jonathan and his wife Jane now reside in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is fiercely proud of his two grown children and their families, and he wishes they lived closer to him. He maintains a website to document his research on the Apollo era at Kennedy Space Center. He collects and restores artifacts from the Apollo era, including several control panels from the Firing Rooms. Jonathan also notes that he might possibly be the only current space author who has appeared on two GRAMMY-winning albums, which were recorded during his years as a Bass II section leader, soloist, and eventually president of The Washington Chorus.

A behind-the-scenes perspective on incredible teamwork + dedication

Great reading!
As an astronaut and history buff, I thought I knew a lot about the Apollo program until I read this book - it provides another perspective on the flight of the Eagle. I highly recommend it as a well-written account that pulls together a wide range of engineering & technical material in an organized & flowing manner.
This is the detailed story of the building and launching of Apollo 11 as told by many of the engineers, builders and workers. The author spent hundreds of hours with former workers across the country, many of whom were never before interviewed.
It is written in timeline fashion, with chapters counting down to launch while reviewing the processes, events and construction in a concise and logical manner. Diverse topics are explained and brought together with frequent quotes and anecdotes from some of the thousands of people at Cape Canaveral. Topics covered include the expected background on building all the parts, backstory on many workers, management and leadership issues, and resolving problems. One surprise was the sabotage investigation when it seemed the mission was nefariously endangered.
This approach is comprehensive and extremely thorough, and despite great detail tends to flow well without being dull or textbook-like. The extraordinary efforts required for a successful launch are well researched. Overall, it’s like listening an uncle who retired from NASA talk with with former coworkers about the glory days of Apollo.
I’d love to see an audio version featuring the real voices of the workers, or perhaps a TED talk with voices and video clips...

Highly recommended.

An OUTSTANDING pair of books!

What an outstanding pair of books! “Rocket Ranch” and it’s companion “Countdown to a Moon Launch” are probably the most detailed and complete books ever written about what the Apollo program was like at the Kennedy Space Center in the 1960’s and 70’s! The research done to write these two books is remarkable, and just the many pictures alone would be worth the price, but the author’s descriptions make the pictures come alive. As someone who lived through those days – and in retirement still lives on the “Space Coast”, I can say that if you have any interest at all in what the early “space business” was like, you really will enjoy reading these books. They will help you gain a real understanding of what it took to send our astronauts to the Moon!

An Inportant Story Well Told

I arrived at NASA Kennedy Space Center coincident with the first stage for the very first Saturn V moon rocket, AS-501, and retired 35 years later as manager of a set of labs that developed new technologies for launching Space Shuttles and their payloads. I thoroughly enjoyed Jonathon Ward's fine book about the people and processes that launched us to the Moon. I knew many of the main characters in the book, and it is a treat to hear their stories, stories we never had time to share when we were busy preparing for stacking, roll to the pad, CDDT, FRF and launch. These stories are well told by Jonathon Ward, and, I believe, easily understood by any interested space junkie. Enjoy the book!
